Bassett is a small town enviroment located centrally between larger cities of Roanoke and Danville, Virginia and Greensboro, NC. This is mostly a rural area with access to wonderful camping grounds around the small undeveloped - "Philpott Lake", and is within close proximity of "Fairystone State Park". It is located near the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains!
Bassett to me, has an environment suited for people that love a little country life, but not to keen on being in the middle of no where either. Bassett is a small community with many opportunities to explore new hobbies. For example, you can rent kayaks and go paddle down Smith River or you can go to our annual classic car show through Bassett. Like many cities and towns, their can be a few changes that can make the community better. One thing I would like to see change would be the lack of jobs in the area. Sadly after many of the factories that made Bassett a thriving community shut down, many people lost jobs and many began search for jobs in other towns, causing people to leave Bassett. I think with more working businesses in Bassett, the community would prosper and become a better environment for newcomers.
The neighbors are friendly, and I enjoy the convenience of being close to stores and restaurants. There are plenty of parks and places to take my kids to play and have fun in the neighborhood.
