The location of the train station in the village is very convenient, and it being a main station is a big plus. Southards pond is a beautiful place to walk and the trails span a good length of the town, I often walk through here instead of on the streets when I can. The people are generally very nice and the dogs are very cute.
Babylon Village is an active South Shore community originally settled in 1689. It was originally referred to as Huntington South and supplied salt hay feed and bedding for livestock in the northern part of Huntington Town. Settlers arrived to the area for easy access to fishing, boating and clamming. The arrival of the railroad in 1867 established Babylon as a resort destination (Argyle Hotel). Train travelers were brought to hotels and to the docks where steamboats brought them to the barrier island; Fire Island. Today old fashioned lamp posts lined flowered Village Main Streets. Residents walk in to town to enjoy Zagat rated restaurants and wine bars, specialty markets, boutique, paddle board and surf shops, and craft beer. Surrounded by nature, Argyle Lake park provides walking trails, fresh water fishing and picnic grounds. Resident Amenities include dock space, LIRR parking, pool and beach (overlooking the Great South Bay, and 9 hole golf course. Express trains to NYC run daily.
Babylon is a quaint town on the South Shore of Long Island. It has a fantastic main street and village, full of pubs, restaurants, and local merchants. Not all towns on Long Island have villages like this. The village is a minute walk from the train station. The train station can take you to Penn station in almost exactly 60 minutes if you catch an express train. A local train will be about 15 minutes longer, but still an easy ride. This allows for an easy commute to and from the sity. The nightlife is similar to that of a college town, minus the college students and reckless behavior. It is also located on the Great South Bay; many neighborhoods South of Montalk Highway are directly adjacent to the canals, which is quite beautiful. Babylon is about a 5-10 minute drive to the Robert Moses Parkway, which takes you to the local Babylon Town Beaches about 15 minutes away. There you can enjoy the sun, surf, and fun beachy environment.
