Austin, MN is where Hormel was founded and currently has the SPAM measeum for visitors and residents alike. Hormel offers lots of job opportunities and we'll as provides the best benefits in town. I just moved to this town with my 3 kids and husband. We love the cost of living for our family. The schools are wonderful here. Their respectful towards my family and me. They go out of their way to make sure my kids are staying on track and not having any issies making new friends. I also looks great haven't yet.
My immediate neighborhood is great. We watch out for each other. Very little crime if any. Great people.

The town that I live in is another thing. Crime has jumped and most people don't feel safe. To go in your back yard you need to lock your doors. Stores have closed and we need to do most shopping in another town or have things shipped. If you don't work at the Fortune 500 company, you are either on public assistance or drive at least 30 miles to your job.
Austin is a small town that is built around Hormel, Inc. which houses its corporate office here. Hormel has down a tremendous amount for this town and I firmly believe that this town would quickly turn into a ghost town if Hormel decided to change location. The demographics of Austin is highly populated retirees from Hormel who are now on fixed incomes and a high populated group of blue collar who work in the Hormel plant. Austin has very little culture or any type or high descent restaurants.
