I liked the plethora of shops and restaurants. While one of the bigger towns in Maine, it still holds a nature-y aspect which I love. It has many recreational activities and centers, like parks, basketball courts/facilities, gyms, indoor pools, tennis courts, biking/walking paths, a skate park, and more!
My only complaint would be the public schooling. The connection between the parents of students and the teachers/administrators are lacking. Important information feels hard to find more often than not, and staff ultimately have poor connection to parents of students, young and old. The high school is severely outdated and underfunded, but just recently got an OK to get replaced (after 15 years of it being proposed and denied constantly). Any time Auburn makes budget cuts, it's to the education system and schooling funds. Other than that, its a great place!

there’s very little to do in within the city of Auburn, Maine. There’s very few places to access swimmable sources of water. There’s one “mountain” in Auburn, but there are a few good walking/biking/running trails, on Witham Spring Road and at Sherwood Heights. There’s quite a few chain restaurants and stores but nothing that makes the town a destination worthy of tourists. Like most Maine towns, it’s beautiful in the fall with leaves of every color.
I have lived in Auburn my whole life and I am now raising my son in Auburn as well. I love the smaller community, but enjoy having the city right at my finger tips. My son is very active in sports and living in Auburn makes it very easy to create close relationships with his coaches and other parents in the sports that he plays.
