I have grown up in Athens my whole life. Athens is one of those towns where it is large enough to where you don't know everyone but small enough to have a small-town feel. The town has provided me with a safe environment to grow up in while providing many opportunities for myself and others to get engaged in our community. The town also is home the Concord University, a small university that has brought many unique and intelligent individuals to our small town. The University provides every citizen with a common subject as we all want our town to grow and succeed.
Tons of Diversity, LGBTQ friendly university, with support system in and out of school. racially diverse and more tolerant of other people's religion's than I expected to find in WV. Because of University, lots of health conscious 18-25 year olds. After 5 everyday in good weather, you'd swear the entire town is out jogging lol.
A nice, small and quiet town considering the biggest thing here is Concord University. Honestly, if you were just passing through Athens and have never been here before, you would probably never even know there was a huge University just over the hill. Though this is a college town, you would be surprised to find out we literally only have one set of traffic lights in the whole area.
There is a great university in town called Concord University. Not much night life. Chas a CVS, banks, churches and a Dollar General
One stop-light town with southern hospitality. Great mix of a small town and a college campus. Population is aging but friendly.
