Athens is a city in Mcminn County with around 15,000 residents. There is a public elementary, middle, and high school in the area. The elementary and middle schools are city ran, but the high school is of the county district. There is not much to do in the area. Parks, movie theatre, bowling, and restaurants are the majority of the entertainment sector. Most restaurants are fast food, with limited diversity. There is no nightlife, and most people are in their homes and off the roads by 10 p.m., unless you are at a Mcminn County football game in the fall or at The Dairy Barn’s parking lot in the spring. The closest golf course is Springbrook Country Club in Niota, TN; or Ridgewood in Etowah, TN. To the north is Knoxville, TN; to the south are Cleveland and Chattanooga, TN. The overall Athens experience is low because of the fact that there are not many activities to keep you busy for long. Residents are often to themselves or in neighboring cities for entertainment.

Generally very welcoming community. Most encounters are friendly and helpful. Neighbors helping neighbors is a regular thing. Schools are very parent friendly and pro-child. Community involvement is heavily encouraged. Afterschool programs available for students to assist working families, huge benefit to community. Several parks and other opportunities for outdoor activities. Wetlands park for natural learning area is a rare benefit to the community.
Overall, Athens is a really nice place to live. It can be behind in the times but you aren’t far from bigger cities to make up for it!
