Working in Athens
Athens is my home town. Growing up in Athens is horrible! There was nothing to do ever! For older people, I'm sure this town is amazing. For the rest of us, we make an exit to a bigger area that offers more. As for jobs and good money, they don't exist! You have to know people to make it in this town. I'm an Athens native and would not recommend living here.
Athens is a small, East Texas town, sat directly in the middle of Henderson County. The center of town, the square, has some small businesses, but most have moved outside of the center. In the square, you will find the Athens history museum, the Railway Cafe, an excellent place to have lunch, the Athens Brewery, who specialize in craft brews, and a few Art exhibits. In the center of it all is the county courthouse, a beautiful 3 story building that serves as the seat of the presiding county judge. As it is East Texas, you will find no shortage of shade. A few key attractions are the Arboretum, a beautiful nature preserve, the Athens Fisheries, where fish are bred and families picnic, and the Come and Take It, a reseller for craft brews and exotic wines. Athens has a good balance between a city, such as Tyler, and a small town, such as Edom. The small nature of the town makes commutes short and easy, usually riding the highway to your destination.
Beautiful historic homes, courthouse in center of town is well over 100 years old, well managed beautiful botanical garden, and is the county seat for Henderson county. Lots of antique shops to visit. Some areas have a beautiful view of Cedar Creek lake well know for tourists. The nastalgic scenery is amazing. For those fitness buffs there is also the Cane center for working out and an indoor pool along with a scenic hiking trail. Its a beautiful little town with lots to offer those of any age.
