Ashtabula Reviews
Rating 2.61 out of 5 56 reviews
My experience with the city of Ashtabula in northeast Ohio starts from the year 2000, when I moved here when I was 2 years old. Ever since I grew up in Ashtabula and I have strong family ties here as well as numerous friends. The city itself is a regular small city with all of it's little businesses, larger businesses, and select few big businesses. The city has a few big hit spots around, known for foods and festivals. With the lake being on the north end, there are multiple beaches to go to as well offering a diverse culture. A few things I would like to see improved in Ashtabula is it's economy because a lot of businesses left leaving it going downhill, but it is on the rise slowly. Another thing I would like to see improved as well is the overall lack of places to shop at. There are plenty of Dollar Generals but other than Wal-Mart, there are very few bigger stores to shop at. And that directly coorelates with the local economy. A few more bigger stores would really help the city.
Growing up here was great. I experienced so much safety, love and comfort. Not to mention a breathtaking landscape. From the sparkling waters and peaceful beaches of Lake Erie to the forested ridges and river valleys streaming alone the horizon. I observed an evolving society, growing from the foundations of immigrant families with strong traditions and the small-town values that are the American Dream. You can find the bad in any place, but when you look for the right things, my home is a unique place, full of wonderful, talented people. And it deserves to be seen and recognized as a place where anyone has the chance to grow.
Ashtabula has a lot of potential but struggles with commitment from residents to invest. We have an exceptional view of Lake Erie but it is not adequately used. One street in Ashtabula offers many restaurants and shops. Outside of this area, many of the neighborhoods seem dirty, poor, and neglected. There are people in the community who want change and are trying to improve the conditions but they receive a lot of negativity and resistance to change.
