I've lived here for over a year and love it (for reference I'm from the Charleston area in WV). Ashland has a wonderful small town feel. There are plenty of places to eat, the schools are really nice, and people are super friendly. The town is very walker friendly as well. Central Park is beautiful, with a lot of people playing tennis, walking, and visiting the dog park. The park also does a Christmas light show that is gorgeous. They have an excellent library, which is one of the nicest around. The price of living is extremely low, and there are many beautiful and architectural homes. The gaming culture is huge here with Time Warp and Goblin Traders really close. I see people of all ages, and everyone has a smile on their face. A great place to live and have a family!
Ashland is a peaceful place to live. Nothing much happens aside from the big Christmas parade in December and the lights they put up in the park. However, it’d be nice to get more things to do around there! Things that might draw in tourists. Ashland used to be the city to be in after all! A city pool maybe.
Ashland is an environmental beauty. There is so much nature, hiking trails, parks, and wild blackberry bushes! Ashland is a small town with a history of coal mining and steel industry labor and with the fall of popularity in coal and steel plants the city has become more impoverished on average, however some still are quite wealthy. There is a problem, as there is everywhere in the Appalachia, with pain-pill-dependency. There are factors in place to assist this.
Over all its a beautiful place with a mixture of people and backgrounds. There are certainly amazing hardworking people here! There are farmers markets for healthy foods, its affordable, the schools have caring staff, etc! However there is more economic diversity than cultural and there isn't much "night life" in Ashland.
