I moved to Ashdown, a small town located in Arkansas, at 3 years of age. I remained there for 45 years. Ashdown is a community based town where most people know one another and thrive on creating an inviting environment. School spirit and the support for our children is one of the many drawing factors of our small community. Our town is located near the Texas - Arkansas state line yielding many job opportunities. Ashdown is home to Millwood Lake, one of the greatest fishing lakes in Arkansas. It is only a short drive to some of Arkansas's most beautiful rivers and mountains. The crime rate in our little town is very low making Ashdown a great place to call home!
Ashdown has little to no crime, very family and pet friendly, and the residents are all nice and treat you like family. The drawn backs are the paper mill smell and very few work opportunities, but Texarkana is only 20 mins away and there are plenty of job opportunities, shopping, restaurants, and amusement. Overall, I love that I can have all the benifits of a large city but drive a few extra miles for quiet safety!
I like about Ashdown the fact that everyone knows everyone. You can always count on seeing someone you know when you go out. The community supports each other in everyday possible. During community events, the whole town shows up in support of one another. For example, anything from football games to the town auction people will show up with smiles on their faces. Also, I have lived here my whole life and am grateful for the people I have around me. I receive support from my town.
