It was great to grow up here. Small town, friendly, supportive of the kids in sports and unified. I live in New Mexico and it is very dry and flat here but we aren't in much danger for earthquakes, blizzards or hurricanes. We don't have many big cities bit we do have beautiful sunsets and deserts, great food and nice weather!
I think coming from a small town has been one of the biggest blessings I have ever had. Everyone knows one another here. Not only that but they get along as well. We have a former resident names Mack Chase and he rewards the top students with scholarships. I think that is a nice gesture. I believe our community is like a family, because once a family is going through something tough, the whole town is there to support. Our schools may be all about sports, but deep down what really matter are our neighbors and their safety, and that's why I like Artesia so much and I hopefully can raise my family here.
I have lived in Artesia, NM the past two and a half years and the people are very friendly. There is very little shopping but I am able to order many items online. The population is approximately 12,000 and does not appear to be growing. This town is an oil and gas town with three major families residing here with oil companies valued over 2 billion dollars and providing many jobs for the community along with other substantial oil industry companies in the area.
