The positives are Ardsley are my neighbors. Many communities cannot say that. The so /so is that the schools are rated highly, but over the 11 years I have been an Ardsley resident, the schools and ranks have declined - just check out Westchester Magazine's school ratings. Because you have a population with more resources, it does not automatically make the school experience excellent. School taxes are extremely high with little to no accountability. The negative - BIG NEGATIVE- is that Ardsley's infrastructure is over 100 years old, has not been maintained and is failing!!!!! Water main breaks are a common occurrence. Flooding is common. The Village does not take responsibility. Eventually, catastrophic issues will arise as the Village does not maintain its infrastructure (storm drains, sewer lines) and sticks its head in the sand. The are better managed Villages/ Towns in Westchester. Look carefully before deciding on Ardsley.
Safe place to live and close to NYC with easy access to parkways & highways. Greater economic, political & cultural diversity needed. Political sectarianism in both village & schools affectively excludes counter perspectives & alienates the same families that live here & support the village/schools. Long range dvlpmt is uninspired; doesn’t consider needs of families & children. Venues for child/teen engagement are sorely lacking. Village leadership is outdated; policies detract from small business development which could help reinvent its small Main St/Village. Community rec is minimal/inaccessible (tennis & skate park by appointment only) & public park is outdated, leaving kids/families idle and searching for activities outside Ardsley. Public schools are influenced by parents & recognition often goes to students with monetary advantage and private scholarly support. Curriculum focused on getting to college & teachers mostly uninventive; kids go unnoticed; resources underutilized.
Overall, the environment is very clean and quiet; a lot of parks and trails that are perfect for outdoor exercises. The people are very friendly and willing to help. It is a nice place for someone who would like to have their children learn under high-quality and competitive education or to just live in a peaceful suburb.
