Truly a magical place! A2 exists in its own world and operates drastically different from anywhere outside the city line. As the most educated city in America, A2 is full of sharp and highly intelligent people. These people tend to be very eccentric, youthful, and sometimes prickly or rude, regardless of age. It's a city of the forever young! Very walkable and dense in the urban center and stunningly beautiful everywhere you go. World-class dining, an incredibly diverse population, and a strong sense of community and optimism. Most of the population is incredibly wealthy which in turn makes living costs incredibly expensive for everyone else. However, living here is worth the price tag for the experience.
Pro tip living here: take little trips into the real world (outside city lines) to give yourself a mental break sometimes. A2 is such a highly academic environment (even if you're not in school) it can sometimes be draining and feel like you're trapped in a bubble.

It is a very busy college town with lots to do! I live in a safe community away from downtown hustle and the undergraduates. I have heard that the main residential areas can get a bit rowdy over the weekends, especially on big sporting event days. I stick to Kerrytown for boutique shopping, and love walking around downtown Ann Arbor on Sundays. Parking is insane here and very limited. It is even hard to get decent parking when I work for the University. That's why I enjoy events and walking around town on Sundays when parking is free. Overall, I have enjoyed my experience here!
Some refer to living in Ann Arbor as "living in a bubble," do with that what you will. The University is a huge part of living here, affects everything: high taxes, game day takes over the whole city; traffic and trash. Very good public elementary/high schools. The middle schools are all not great. Nightlife is great if you're a UofM student but very boring if you're not. The real estate market is doing very well, this means extremely high housing prices which pushes residents out. I couldn't afford to live here if my parents hadn't bought their house during a market crash. Very safe, easy to navigate (except during games), and family-friendly. Not affordable for the average person, I'd say it is an upper-middle-class town. Ann Arbor prides itself on diversity and yet it should be much more diverse than it is. As for job opportunities, I know many people, including family members that have to take long commutes to Detroit/Lansing for work because they couldn't find anything in town.
