Anderson has declined and many parts have fallen into decay over the years. The disrepair of the roads and infrastructure significantly impacts meaningful growth. Crime and poverty are sharply increasing in many areas of the city. Opportunities for innovation are generally opposed by the majority of the population as was the case with the proposed reservoir. There seems to be a culture of complacency and mediocracy among area residents that didn't exist in the past. Anderson used to be a proud, industrious, and thriving city. It simply isn't anymore.
However, there are some highlights that still remain. Mounds State Park is great. It is well kept and offers a tremendous amount of history. Anderson Museum of Art is small, but nice. Rangeline Nature Preserve is hit or miss. It can be nice, but I've also seen trash strewn about the paths and people using drugs in the parking area; same goes with Shadyside Park/Aqua Gardens.
There just isn't much going for Anderson anymore. Avoid it.

The only thing Anderson has going for it is its affordability and ability to commute to Indy area We moved here for my husband job, and it's definitely been an adjustment. The city definitely has a drug and homeless problem and its hard to want to visit certain places like parks or downtown due to fear of stepping on needles or being hassled for money. It does have some rural areas that are very nice and caring neighbors in some neighborhoods. Lots of places to eat, but not many stores unless you want to go to a liquor store or a dollar general. The zoning board is horrible. So many businesses fail and a lot of vacant building and houses. Politics are similar to any other city, they have the buddy system of doing things and think residents are too stupid to notice. Know if you move here, there's a drug problem, homeless problem, uptick in crime and shootings, and lack of good paying jobs and not a lot to do for families, but you can get affordable housing and always commute to Indy
Anderson is a small, decent town with a few places for food and enjoyment. Throughout the town, many diverse restaurants exist, which are mostly either Mexican or Chinese food. There are also many fast food places. For enjoyment, Anderson had a bowling alley, two beautiful parks, a beautiful museum of art. There are many nice neighborhoods, but there could be some improvements. Much of the town seems very rundown since multiple businesses have closed down or left town over the past decade. There are some places that many parents wouldn't feel safe taking their children. Regardless of this, there are still multiple parts of Anderson that make it a beautiful place to live. As a small town, there are many local businesses to support, such as local farmers' markets and local hair salons. Overall, Anderson is a nice town with a few flaws, but a good place to experience good times.
