Everything you need is close by, shopping, food, you name it, it's close! With affordable housing and apartments, what's not to love? The best thing of all though is how close we are to everything, the mountains and lakes are just around the corner and even major cities like Asheville or Greenville are just a short hike away. When choosing a place to move we were able to find many affordable apartments with nice amenities. The downtown is being revitalized and has many new restaurants, bars, and even my new favorite coffee shop!
Beautiful downtown with a great lake. A lot of shopping options with the mall on Clemson blvd. and downtown easily located on the same strip! A nice place to stay if you're looking for a location for the Clemson game! It is about 20 minutes from the college town and is a great affordable option if you do not want to pay for higher boarding during the Clemson game! There are a lot of food options and great tourist options such as a bowling alley, movie theater, skating ring, and rock climbing. Not to mention it is 30 mins from downtown Greenville, SC which has even more options for travel! Overall I give this a 5/5 if you want to visit the upstate of SC without the tourist prices.
Positive aspects about Anderson: Small town feel with plenty of opportunities to keep busy. Parks around the county, close to mountains/hiking options, couple of movie theaters, plenty of restaurants, Anderson University provides average college community life with a solid education, close to Clemson University, very affordable, and average night life scene.
Negative aspects about Anderson: The culture is suited to a particular type of person (for the most part). It is a very politically conservative environment overall. While there is average diversity when it comes to racial demographics, in many ways the city still feels segregated. If you are not a church going person, it is very difficult to find groups which provide community. Lastly, do NOT move here if you are LGBTQ+; you will almost always be stared at in public settings.
