Amory is tiny town without much to do. We lack a movie theatre, bowling alley, and most fun generic things you can think of. Living in a small town does come with its perks, though. Since there's not much to do, there's always a good turnout and lots of support for sports, and teens make their own fun by driving around town. Another thing with a great turnout that even includes local cities, is the Railroad Festival. It celebrates how the town came to be. Since the town is so small, everyone knows everyone. Although it's quite quaint, there's something quite enjoyable about knowing your neighbors.
I like that it is a small town, population of less than 10, 000 people. The town and outlying communities are very laid back and quiet. There is a community garden lot for growing food crops. It's country, lots of trees and lakes and the Tenn-Tom Waterway. The town has a nice downtown park with benches, tables, a stage, and a new splashpad for little kids. McAlpine Lake offers a nice spot to fish and feed ducks and geese in town. There are two golf courses and numerous ball fields. The crime rate is low. However, the town has been advertised as a great retirement town. You can tell. The local skating rink and a couple of small playgrounds are the only places for older kids and teenagers to go hang out. The town no longer has a movie theater or a public swimming pool. Unless you are into playing sports or fishing, there is no place to go have fun. Luckily, it isn't too far from some larger towns which have more to choose from. Still, all in all, I like our small town.
Amory is wonderful place to raise a family. It is also small enough to feel like you know everyone but just big enough to still meet great new people!
