Altoona is small but has everything a large suburb has including an outlet mall, premium movie theater, Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino, and restaurants. The shopping scene is still expanding and summer is where it's at with the Thoroughbred horse races!

I've lived in Altoona my whole life. Over the years, it's grown considerably. It's safe enough, but the cops in town aren't very nice to anyone. Relatively quiet crime-wise. Terrible snow removal service.
Altoona is close to Des Moines, which provides many opportunities to residents while providing a low cost of living. There bike trails and paths throughout the city, making it easy to be active outdoors. If one thing should be changed about Altoona, it should be diversity among residents.
