Altamont is a small community that rests at the foot of the Helderberg mountains. The small country town is home to roughly 2,000 people and offers small pleasures like a small restaurant dedicated to war veterans and filled with memorabilia of the wars as well. We also offer a small local wine shop, two bistros and an antique shop, all located in the walking distance of Main St. Altamont even hold an annual fair that offers food, rides animal attractions, local businesses and plenty of other exhibits. Altamont is a small gem in Albany county and a pleasure to live in.
A quiet suburb of Albany in upstate New York, Altamont is a vestige of small town America. The Altamont Fair takes place yearly and is well known throughout the Capital Region of New York. Just west of Altamont is Thatcher State Park which is located upon the Helderberg escarpment. Thatcher state park overlooks the Hudson Valley below all the way from Altamont to the Empire State Plaza eleven miles to the East where the most prominent structure of the plaza know as Corning Tower stands at 589 feet and stands a visual land mark for the west border of the Hudson river in Albany.
I have moved to Altamont since 2012 and love the neighborhood and the safety. The apartment I live in is very clean and pet friendly. We leave our doors open and we feel safe. The travel to malls and restaurant is not that bad. It is also near by a community Y and Cross gate and Colonie mall. It also has an Indian grocery store near by, which is good for my family since we are Asian Indian. Their also are few temples that we can go worship. All in all a beautiful and safe place to live.
