Working in Alstead
Based on employment rates, job and business growth, and cost of living.
Local business is limited- a small general store, Orchard Hill Bakery, gun shop, Kirby Q BBQ restaurant, and a local artisan shop. The shining point of the town is the beautiful Shedd-Porter Public Library (built in 1910). Very safe town of friendly families, most of which have resided in Alstead for generations. A 30-minute drive from multiple larger towns with good employment opportunities/more activities (Keene NH, Brattleboro VT, Putney VT, Bellows Falls VT).
The economy and laws now are making it extremely difficult for locally-owned, or small businesses. This leaves the average person in my community without or searching for a job.
Local business can be quite small, but everyone knows everyone and are for the most part friendly.
