Allen Park is above average within the downriver community, but compared to other places I have lived in the country it leaves me wanting. The schools are recently updated, but are offering a slightly above average level of education as demonstrated in their state test scoring. The infrastructure of the city is crumbling, although attempts are being made to improve the superficial aspects of the city.

Allen Park, overall, is a nice place to live. I mostly appreciate the safety and the central location: it is very easy to get to many major highways, downtown Detroit, the airport, etc. Most people are friendly and take care of their homes. It is definitely lacking in businesses and attractions. Most restaurants are very average quality. There is not much to see or do. We go downtown or to Ferndale, Royal Oak, Ann Arbor, etc. when we want to enjoy a night out.
Allen Park is a quiet gem within the Downriver Area. It's residents are friendly and welcoming and it's a safe place to live. When you're in Allen Park, you're minutes from everything from trendy shops, bars and restaurants downtown to the shopping mecca of "The Hill" on the north end of the city. Allen Park's schools have always had a reputation for excellence and as mentioned, Allen Park is safe...we like it that way and our men an women in blue keep it that way. Don't believe it? Just enter the city via the Southfield Fwy over 55 MPH and find out for yourself. A great time to check out the city is during the yearly festival Downtown.
