Crime & Safety
The education system does well for its size and the cut funding that the state controls. I believe the education system would grow tremendously if the superintendent was appointed instead of elected. We have had one new restaurant open in the past year. Our main street is coming back to life as boutiques come into the city. Pontotoc is a good balance of rural life with urban commodities. The cost of living is low, and the people are very friendly. We love hometown athletics and hunting. Much of the community is pious. If you can't find something in Pontotoc, Tupelo is a 25 minute drive away. I see the future of Pontotoc growing if and only if we can get rid of some of the old politicians and bring in some new blood with firm morals and a lack of complacency.
There is a strong sense of community in the area. This is a place where a lot of people like to raise their kids because they know that it is a safe environment. We are actively trying to build a greater community of active residents to push ourselves to become a healthy community. Our biggest example of this is the addition of a biking/walking trail. Longevity is pretty great among the residents, and the community is accepting of most things that are legal and within reason.
Pontotoc is a great city. Great place to raise a family. It's quiet...most of the time. However, jobs are rare to find. Almost everyone I know works out of the city. The overall atmosphere is great. Everyone is very welcoming. There isn't much go do around here, but we all find ways to have a good time.
