I moved to Alexandria as part of a temporary work assignment and absolutely loved the area. I was apprehensive after reading all these scathing reviews but it’s really not a bad place to live. I find that the people here are extremely open and nice.
Although crime seems to have risen, it’s by no means as bad as other cities that I have lived in. Of course, like everywhere, there are certain areas to avoid. It’s also a good idea to lock your car doors, especially at night.
I find that the city of Alexandria is slightly slower paced. It can be hard for people who are always in a rush, but living in Alexandria allows you to slow down and enjoy the process.
Similar to the nearby city of Pineville, Alexandria is very family-oriented. Most places close early during the week. There really isn’t much of a nightlife or any loud fun.
I loved every minute of living in Alexandria and will miss the city and all the people that I have met immensely!

I have lived here for 50 yrs. How sad that crime rate soars: teens killing teens, car broken into, robberies, drugs., Alex is now a dangerous very place!
Activities once here: Aces Baseball, go-karts, Alligator Park, swimming pools & tennis programs- gone.
Stores closed so shopping is limited. Alex/P once destinations for antique shoppers- no longer.
The Zoo, Alexandria’s jewel, underfunded with city expecting FOTAZ to even pay some employees’ salaries. The mayor controlled police (appointing his candidate chief, not recommended by citizens’ committee.) So numbers & degree of crimes are kept from public. Tennis courts lack care, often locked. Turner YWCA pools, not affordable for youth swimming & lessons, so 2 great pools empty except for a few families & elderly patrons. Buses don’t run on Sun. so elderly/poor can stay home. Weiss & Goldring Bldg donated to City sits in ruins. Who can save Alex? Young, intelligent, creative leadership.
Pray for the rescue of our city.

There are not many things to do in Alexandria. It is the same places over and over so a lot of the time, people travel out of the town to cities such Baton Rouge or Lafayette just to find things to do. I would like to see more places where teens could go instead of just walking in the mall all of the time!
