It is a very welcoming community from my point of view. It's also a very close-knit type of community where everyone knows everyone sort of thing. Most everyone is involved in some way in the community. Everyone goes to support all of the local school's activities, from sports to the musicals put on every year. There are so many people that just want to see the community thrive, and help out in whatever way they can. There is a local summer camp sort of thing that is on Tuesdays and Thursdays, put on for two hours, for the local kids to come and have fun, and get a meal in, and gives opportunities for the local high schoolers to come to volunteer their time, and really connect with the younger kids.
Abingdon's population has been declining in the past 10 - 15 years, having lost our major industry, the pottery. Most people consider it a sleeping community, but it is a small town that is close and close to larger metropolitan areas. It would be nice to see more jobs available in this community, but it seems like it has gone stale for now.
Every small town has its ups and downs, but I’ve lived here my entire life and loved every minute of it. Everybody knows everybody and school classes are always small, which makes them close.
