I have graduated from here several years ago, and attended from 6th-12th grade.
It was, and to my understanding, still remains, an excellent school. The greatest advantage about going here is the ability to get t know your teachers very, very well.
My advice to excel in this school is the following:
I. Bond with the teachers: They are highly skilled, and care deeply about their students. Mine were mentors and confidants. They will help you with whatever you need to get where you want to go, and indeed, help you find out where that is.
II. Particular to high school - be aware of the programmes offered to you: I attribute my success in university to specialising while I was still in high school. YOU CAN DO THIS - you do not have to take a general class load throughout high school. The opportunities for scholarships, academic achievements, and learning about a subfield, are multitudinous. DO DUAL ENROLLMENT. It's a leadership school - be a leader in the navigation of your life!

Its hard and mentally grueling at this school. If you are alright with sacrificing the mental wellbeing of your child for the sake of academics, this school is decent for you. There is also a lack of room for self-expression and there is a lot of favoritism shown by the staff based on what year you are in. Prepare for a depletion in your child's mood while attending this school. Teachers enjoy incorporating their personal standpoints into lessons also so if that is a bother this school isn't ideal. However, some bonds made at this school amongst students are truly strong so a sense of camaraderie is present however there will be cliques. Make sure you can afford the uniform of this school as the blazer at this school is particularly pricey along with any laptop damages your child's computer may face. Do not expect mutual respect paid back to your child from the staff. There are many concerns of this school but do with them what you will.
My experience at YWPA has been filled with ups and downs. For the most part, the majority of the teachers there are very caring and understanding. Some of them are even empathetic to their students. I cannot speak for all teachers, but for the majority of the teachers I've had they do not want to see you fail. The teachers and staff create a friendly/comfortable environment. If you ever needed help and wanted to talk to a teacher or staff member, the majority of them would be willing to help you. A downside about attending YWPA is the amount of stress you are put under. The workload can be very stressful and overwhelming. Although, it is a magnet school the workload is a bit much. A positive outcome from all the stress is that I can work very well under pressure. As far as the experience overall, it has its pros and cons.
