I am currently a sophomore at York International; this is my seventh year attending this school. York International offers a rigorous and challenging curriculum for all four years of high school. Despite being an IB World School (and utilizing the IB grading scale), it is significantly harder to pass and/or obtain specific letter grades in classes compared to other IB schools and schools in the vicinity. The courses are taught with care(e.g: why we use certain formulas in math for different things (calculators use matrices to solve equations); I also get the opportunity to experience college-level labs in my high-school Biology class. This really provides a one-of-a-kind experience.

Overall, this is an excellent school for post-secondary education preparation. York is a school which is small by-design, so students of each grade (and even the whole high school wing) can bond and support each other. Aside from the less-than-perfect school culture, and food, York is a great place to be.

My school has great, caring teachers. The demographics of our school have not impeded us from succeeding. We are 70% Latino and 70% Free and Reduced Lunch; yet our ACT scores for the class of 2016 beat the national average in all subject areas.

Without proper textbooks, teachers skim through books to create the best curriculum possible, open up school on weeekends, and stay at school into the late evening hours to help us succeed.

There are plenty of students who are English Language Learners and many will also be first generation college students. Our school has prepared us to succeed, and we will!
My experience at York International has changed me not only as a student, but as a person all together. This school has taught me the value of education and the value of other people's background, in this school you find many students with different backgrounds. Different stories to tell and with each story told at this school it alters the way you think about certain issues. York International does an exquisite job in preparing their students for life after high school. Despite the rigorous classes that York International has, students overall gain an advantage because these classes are incredibly difficult but once you learn how to accommodate with the complexity of the class it makes other classes easier especially college classes. I'm glad I got a chance to experience this school for four years and I wouldn't change it for the world.
