I came to Wright City High School in my Sophmore year in high school. It was very different considering it is a small school. The school was very welcoming, the environment in the school made the transfer worth it. Being in a smaller school has allowed me to participate in several clubs and sports that I would not have been in at my old school. This school year I have been apart of soccer, track, dance, NHS (my previous school did not acknowledge my grades), Student Council, yearbook, and Health Occupations. Wright CIty is one of the few schools that offers Health Occupations- which is a program through a tech school. The program has allowed me to gain a lot of new experiences, being able to shadow several different areas in the medical field. During my three years at Wright City, I was able to have better relationships with my teachers, and my peers.

I love the small school feel. It’s true, you literally know everyone. Most of the teachers are very nice and care about students. I think the school is just way to focused on getting accreditation’s that they overlook the good of the students. It’s my senior year and I feel like it’s a whole new place because they changed the system of everything. They make everything standardized and care more about getting test scores and attendance for certain awards than if the student is okay mentally. I know a lot of students who’s home life isn’t great and they’re going through a lot of personal stuff. And they’re grades might slip a little. But instead of taking one on one time with that student, the school just punishes everyone with in school suspension for every little thing. I do like the school, but it definitely has it downfalls.
I think that most of the teachers at this school work hard for the kids. the problem areas are with the administration. they are so focused on "hitting numbers" for the state, that the kids are being taught curriculum that is irrelevant or isn't taught well just to hurry through. they are basically being taught to pass a bunch of state testing! When you bring concerns to the administration, they are good to "listen" but they do nothing. Unqualified teachers are still there doing the same things they always do (which is little to nothing). On the other hand, there are some GREAT teachers at the school. But, we keep losing them due to the stupidity of the our administration. There is much frustration out there with parents and teachers. We are a small town with a small school. Everyone talks to one another. The same complaints keep popping up in conversations. When the concerns are brought to the administration, they don't listen at all. We had one elementry school that lost 19 teachers last year. Teachers who had been in this district for years and were loved by so many parents and students left. Did our administration look at the new principal (been there just 2 years) and the complaints against her? NO! She is still there......its just bad on many levels.
