Years ago, when I was an incoming freshman to Woodside, I remember feeling the overwhelming sense of excitement and belonging on my first day stepping foot into the school. There is an aura surrounding Woodside and it befriends all that stammer upon it. The school's friendly atmosphere isn't its only charm, it's also extremely diverse both racially and academically. Woodside is a magnet school meaning that is specializes in the talents of the students. The classes range from guitar to architectural design and many more. There is something for everyone at Woodside and there is a great chance that you'll make many friends on your journey as well!
I think that Woodside is a very diverse and culturally accepting school. I find it to be quite unique. Woodside’s Magnet Program is mainly based around the Arts, such as Band, Orchestra, Piano, Art, Photography, Theatre, and many more. Every bit of the art department is filled with talented people. Our walls are filled with a variety of beautiful paintings and thought-provoking photos that others have made or taken. Entirely, I find Woodside as a very knowledgeable and well-rounded school. Although, I would personally like a few changes; but I would declare them changes that are out of my reach. Such as student’s behaviors, and actions towards others. I’d also like it if certain security guards were kinder, and understood certain circumstances- such as a person pulling out their phone for something school related, and getting it taken away. Overall, Woodside High School is accredited and, for those who partake in the arts, a building full of opportunities.
Woodside High School is one of the best high schools in the city of Newport News. The teachers make bonds with their students rather than asserting their dominance and I believe that those bonds help students with their education. The teachers at Woodside really do their best to make their classrooms the safest environments for their students, while also trying to give the best learning experiences. Woodside is one of the most diverse schools in the district. The guidance councilors make sure that the students are college ready by having an open door. Woodside is one of the best high schools in the Newport News school district.
