Our daughter started kindergarten in August. Katy is reputed to be among the best districts in TX and Woodcreek one of its better schools. We’ve found the school to be poorly-led, overcrowded and under-resourced. The year started with an incident with a teacher that was completely mismanaged and initially ignored by leadership and has continued with the fact that 5 months into the year our daughter still hasn’t received special services because the school, and district in general, are short on speech therapists and other special needs teachers. The student-teacher ratio in K 25-1 due to lack of teachers and they’ve outgrown the building. If you’re looking in Katy because of what seems thus far to be a wholly undeserved reputation for Katy ISD I’d look specifically at the individual school.
This is my daughter's second year at WCE. The teachers are top notch and the principal communicates with family regularly on a weekly basis. The culture is one that is fun, interactive, and nurturing. It's easy to see why they are consistently ranked among the greater Houston's top elementary schools. It's the people! The diversity is substantial of so many nationalities and cultures making way for a positive experience. Parental involvement is highly encouraged and parents regularly participate.
I have 3 kids who have or still are benefiting from WCE. Without exception our experience has been great! 2 of mine have required special services (504/IEP) and the administration and staff have really shown their love for helping kids succeed in spite of their challenges. We live WCE!
