Join a community where boys are known, challenged, and loved.

Woodberry is a school for boys who want something else, something more than they can get at home. It’s a school for boys who love a challenge and know that a hard thing is always worth doing.

On our beautiful campus in the Virginia countryside, boys join an enduring community, develop friendships that last a lifetime, and gain a sense of self-confidence that is balanced by humility. They are mentored by teachers and coaches who devote their lives to the school and the boys who live and learn here. Together students and teachers pursue excellence in all areas of our community's life.

I believe Woodberry is a great place in theory where it focuses on developing boys into an independent and responsible gentleman. At Woodberry, I value the honor code the most. Unlike most schools, we have a strict honor code; "No lying, stealing or cheating. This teaches the boys to act in an honorable manner putting righteousness and integrity before their school work, sports, and everyday lifestyle. However, there's problems with every institution. From my experience, there seems to be a disconnect between the administration and the students and in some ways, there is a lack of trust between the two groups.

I graduated from Woodberry in 1968. The closest friends I have to this day are my Woodberry classmates. It wasn’t always easy being a long way from home on a campus with no girls and an absence of typical high school activity. I always knew that I would never let those considerations blind me to what Woodberry sought to instill in me- a strong understanding of honor, confidence in myself, and a dedication to what is right as opposed to what is easy.

When I attended to Centennial Celebration of the school’s founding, my former wife was.blown away by how much we genuinely liked our classmates and teachers. I have been back to Woodberry many times can honestly say that it has neve lost those qualities that made it so special.
The sense of community and brotherhood at Woodberry Forest is unparalleled. With 99% of the teachers living on campus, they are always available for extra help and they become family to all the students. Each student is assigned an advisor for four years, subject to change if requested, and that advisor is critical to the student's success. The athletics and arts programs are top notch. Overall, my experience was absolutely incredible, and I would do anything to have another week at The Forest with my brothers.
