Winooski High School Reviews
Rating 3.61 out of 5 18 reviews
Winooski has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to education. They were among the first to introduce proficiency-based grading, and they have a course that is specifically designed for students to get credit for learning about their interests. It is also very rare to be surrounded by all types of people in a state that is 97% white. I have been very lucky to experience this diversity and to know what it's like to be the minority. Like any school, Winooski has it's rough spots. Many of the students have grown up in poverty, and face difficulties at home that can bleed into school. However, the teachers at Winooski are unlike most others. Anyone can see how much they care for the students, and due to Winooski's smaller population, they can help students individually and adjust for their needs or interests. Winooski is often overlooked or underrated due to its socio-economic status, but this school can not and should not be ranked solely on that, because it is so much more.
I was practically raised in Vermont and moved here at the age of 12. I been going to Winooski High School for the past three and a half years though. This is my senior year, and I am proud to say that I'm a spartan for sure. The school size being very small made me feel comfortable to ask for help when I needed and things of that nature. This was so beneficial to me, because growing up I was always quiet and stayed to myself. Around my eighth grade year I started bonding with my classmates and making good friends. If I had the power to change one thing about Winooski High School, it would be to change the method of showing learning by presenting projects instead of testing. I'm not saying this because I love testing, thats definitely not the case. It's the fact that colleges aren't changing the way that students should show their learning and they are sticking to finals, exams, etc. I wish we would do testing too so, I can be prepared for it.
I like Winooski school because is a small school, a lot of people of color, great after school programs, great teacher .
