Honestly, I came to Wilson with open arms. All of my teachers were fantastic people who knew what they were doing and made sure that we understood everything. I met a lot of outstanding people at Wilson. My school would always provide help. There were also a lot of opportunities for education and volunteering. My school made sure everyone was safe. The councilors were also very good, helping out students with their mental health, which has been a huge problem for this generation's students. The diversity in my school is also very fantastic! Many classrooms are a safe place for POC and people in the Lgbt+ community. But I do think it should be addressed more people some students can be racist and homopohobic, and some teachers and staff turn the blind eye.
From my personal experience, I enjoyed the opportunity given to the students. There are many clubs, programs, teams and much more to feel involved within the school and these chances allow for new friendships to form. I was very involved at Wilson and I met beautiful people that helped me become a better person, including my favorite teachers. Even though there are opportunities given to students, there is also opportunity for privileged students to get away with the discrimination and oppression that they give to other students. This sounds straightforward and simple, but there is a complexity to this privilege/opportunity to oppress others. When a student is vocal and aware of the power their words have, they use that power for wrong, when the word "immigrant" echoes throughout another child's head or the n word is swimming through a black child's ear, who pays the price? The oppressed rather than the oppressor receives the consequences. Wilson has led it happen, I want change.
Wilson High School in Long Beach was founded in 1925. It is known as a classical High School. From the perspective of a student, it is rich in tradition, history and culture.
I am in the WAVE program which is the most rigorous academic pathway including 10 AP courses it is a prep pathway for the highest college institutions in the country.
I have excelled in the program and received straight A's over the course of the past three years and I intend on staying the course to finish as Valedictorian.
I have enjoyed playing on the Varsity Baseball team for three years. I am the starting catcher at Wilson. I hope to play ball in college next year and my search for a great university with a good baseball team that needs a catcher is on.
Wilson's school colors are Maroon and Gold. I have worn the colors with pride every school day. I will always remember my time as a Wilson Bruin. As they say in the school front office when answering the phone "It's a great day to be a Bruin".
