The lack of diversity is a big issue for me. I am not particularly “diverse” but I feel disadvantaged and set back in the world due to my lack of cultural exposure. Other than that, my teachers were wonderful and always made sure I stayed on track. I participated in Marching Band and Indoor Track as a thrower and both our music and sports programs are strong. The student body supports each other and especially the sports teams.

William Byrd has a rich history and is community oriented. The school pride there is palpable! The principal and teachers love their students and are their #1 cheerleaders and encouragers. They are motivated to do well.
Every teacher in the school is excited about teaching their students and encourage them to do their best. Everyday, students are given new information and resources to further their educational efforts. Tests provide students with a way for them to show their increased knowledge on the subjects they have been taught. AP Classes prepare students for the Advanced Placement Exams, while Dual Enrollment gives kids a chance to earn in-state college credit. After being here for four years, I feel prepared for my college classes and know I will be more prepared than my fellow college students. Without the dedication of the staff and administration to the best interests of the students, students would not be as motivated to complete their academic career and continue on to a four year university. Guidance is very helpful in making sure seniors have their college applications completed and scholarship opportunities are announced daily.
