William B. Travis High School Reviews
Rating 3.78 out of 5 786 reviews
My character has been strengthened and my academic and personal progress has been pushed by attending this institution. Together with my classmates, I've created a lot of memories and even a solid foundation for college. In all four years I attended, my major challenges were clarity and mental health. I've left my comfort zone and begun to shape into the person I want to be by surrounding myself with like-minded people and peers that inspire me!
Overall, the staff at Travis is very supportive, especially if you communicate your needs to them. The campus environment is amazing. We have tons of spirit days and pep rallies that bring the student population together, and there is always some sort of competition between advisory periods going on- whether that be for drives or participation. If one is interested in giving back to the community, Travis hosts a plethora of clubs with that as their focus. Additionally, there are many clubs which honor the different cultures of the students at Travis. The only two problems I have with Travis is its population and underfunding. These two problems are intertwined with each other because Travis is so overpopulated that many of its programs struggle to support all of their students. For example, I am personally in band, and we have an amazing number of students within the program; however, because of our size we struggle to stay within our budget for tailgating, competitions, and repairs.
My experience with THS has been incredible. As I go into my senior year, I can't help but reflect on my last three years with this school. One thing that stood out to me was the unwavering dedication of the faculty and staff, especially the custodians, who have made my few years before adulthood a smooth and memorable ride. Their dedication and hard work have ensured the school environment is clean and conducive to learning. However, if I had to criticize an experience with this school, it would be moments when academic pressure was too tremendous. As I have dedicated myself to more challenging courses like AP classes, I found that my multiple assignments and tests from different classes often coincided, creating excessive workload and stress. To address this issue, I propose that teachers collaborate and coordinate to have deadlines and test dates on opposing dates. By meeting this requirement, students would have a manageable workload and alleviate unnecessary stress.
