I transferred to WRE in 3rd grade and did not enjoy it until I graduated. The school is full of rich, entitled white kids who will ostracize you if you aren't exactly like them in every way. There were some incredible teachers there, but they were the rarity and the academics were not challenging. The parent involvement is present to the point of being obnoxious and the parents were no better than the kids in terms of how they will treat you. The school has somehow upheld a reputation of excellence but from a former student's perspective, it is socially and academically anything but.

White Rock Elementary is a school that mostly gets by on reputation. The reputation was created when the school had half the current enrollment and a much more diverse enrollment. Today the school is, at best, mediocre. There are some great teachers, but there are also some terrible ones and they just drift because it seems that the administration doesn't know what's actually happening in the classrooms. The school itself is largely a disappointment.

The neighborhood and parents are highly involved and getting more involved all the time. It's good, but it's scaled to the point of almost obnoxiousness, and there's definitely a sense that it's some sort of weird competition to see who has the most excess money to throw around and who can seem coolest. In some ways it's a lot like High School. If you liked High School, you'll love this neighborhood. The good news is that, like High School, everyone isn't terrible, and if you look below the surface you will find some nice people.
We've had a great experience with WRE so far. They have great teachers, great facilities (tons of natural light, which is important to me for a positive learning environment). We always feel very welcome (and we have a more diverse family).
