I have loved my experience at Wheatland. I have gained friendships with both teachers and students. I love going to school and having the support of everyone around me. My favorite part of Wheatland would be the choir, which I take part in. Similar to most teachers at Wheatland, choir has a wonderful teacher. He has taught me about music and leadership. The only reason I would not like Wheatland would be a few bad teachers I have had.
I found that I was not challenged enough during my time at Wheatland Union High School. I took all of the Honors and AP classes available and still was never truly challenged. I had difficulty with the science based subjects because that is not my strong suit. The Math department was chaotic as they were transitioning to include inter-graded math for the lower class-men. I worked up to Calculus and while the workload was manageable and the coursework was easy to follow, they had only one teacher for all of the Algebra 1, 2, Pre-calculus, Calculus and AP Calculus classes. It was clear she was tired and overworked, she had no time to give students one on one attention and would become frustrated with her classes easily. I did not feel as though Wheatland did an adequate job at helping me prepare for college, the college-prep resources were not openly accessible and I often had to go out of my way to find the answers to questions I needed.
It is a smaller school of around 400 students total, so that gave everyone a lot of room to get to know people and be more involved. There are some funding issues all across the board, but the staff does genuinely care. There's a teacher for nearly every student's needs. Even if you don't attend their classes they are willing to talk to you and get to know you.
