I attended Westwood High School from 2014-2018. I learned a lot and I grew a lot. It was a very hard transition from middle school to high school, but I made it work for ME! When I stepped on the grounds of Westwood, the school seemed so HUGE! It looked like a castle! I thought to myself, "Oh Lord, I'm going to get lost!" My hands were trembling and my knees were shaking. After some self encouragement, I got myself together and walked through those doors. Westwood High School, here I am. I thought to myself, this isn't so bad! I gained some courage and started for looking for my classes. I was ready to take on the world now. I knew that I would do my best. My overall experience at Westwood was awesome. I got involved in various clubs and activities. I took part in the marching band and thoroughly enjoyed it! The teachers were great! They made sure that I received everything that I needed before entering college. I definitely appreciate the time spent at Westwood High School!
I've been enrolled at Westwood for all of my 4 years of high school, and each year my thoughts about the school become increasingly hostile. During my freshman year, things were good. But by the time my senior year rolled around things got worse. We have fewer classes, fewer teachers, and more time at school. Our busses are constantly late, so they time we stayed at school had to be pushed back, affecting everyone's schedule. So many teachers are leaving, so half the classes I wanted to take senior year weren't even offered. Our teachers are constantly having to cover classes that aren't theirs, will little to no extra pay. I would say that my first half of high school was okay, I got the classes I wanted and passed the year. But the second half hasn't met my expectations. I hope that as the years go by, things get figured out and change for the better.
Westwood is a good school with lots of experience and opportunity. The teachers push students like myself to be the best that they can be academic wise, but also as a person. Whenever I have doubts about something I know that I can ask questions or talk to any adult at the school without feeling like I'm a bother or that I will be "discriminated" against. Also, there are many clubs and organizations that try to get students involved or make students feel comfortable at the school they're attending.
