Westwood High IB World School Reviews
Rating 3.96 out of 5 675 reviews
As a student at Westwood High IB World School, I can confidently say that my experience has been nothing short of exceptional. The school offers a challenging and engaging IB curriculum that has not only broadened my knowledge but also developed critical thinking skills. The teachers at Westwood are truly dedicated to their craft. They are not only knowledgeable in their subjects but also genuinely care about the success of their students. They encourage active participation and provide the support needed to excel academically. The diverse student body creates an inclusive and welcoming environment, and the extracurricular activities, clubs, and events offer plenty of opportunities to make friends and pursue passions outside of academics. Of course, no school is without its challenges. The workload can be demanding, especially in the IB program, but the skills I've developed in time management and resilience will undoubtedly serve me well in the future
In the four (three in-person) years that I have attended Westwood High School, I feel that I received a cream-of-the-crop education. Westwood is fairly well-known in the district for having a highly competitive student body, a rigorous curriculum (across all classes), and the college-ready students they produce come graduation, and I feel I wholly embody those things. That's not to say it was without its struggles, but you can't succeed without challenging yourself. For me, my challenges came in the form of a select few teachers who did not come to class with a smile every day, those who weren't too expressive about believing in their students. Often I found that teacher morale was low, and sometimes that translated into a harder time for the students.
Westwood is an institution that sets students up for success in higher education. The majority of teachers are extremely passionate, knowledgeable, and have the teaching of advanced courses down to a tee. But, the environment of Westwood can be overwhelming. Students' competitive attitudes can be genuinely disheartening and distracting- it's not easy on your mental health to go here. It is overcrowded and constantly undergoing construction that makes just entering a hassle. The administration is prone to communicating poorly about rule changes, then lecturing the student population. In general, this is a very safe place with no fights and few emergencies, lots of successes, but lots of stressors.
