Good academics, but at the price of your mental state. AP classes are standard: if you’re not taking one, you might as well give up your wishes for a good college! Students stretch themselves thin to achieve impossible standards and become caricatures of themselves in attempts to be the student they believe colleges look for. The atmosphere is a little suffocating, as all small towns are, and students lack real world experience and hardship. Otherwise, it’s a school that provides opportunities to their students and has a clean and safe learning facility.
Ranked as one of the best high schools in the state of Connecticut, Weston High School provides an education that stresses rigor, collaboration, and involvement. In a competitive educational environment, many students can end up getting preoccupied with their grades, extracurriculars, and chances of getting into college, but the teachers do a wonderful job of reminding students of the real reason why they're in school–to learn. The different courses offered provide a balance between personal and creative thinking–such as through essays or tests–and collaborative activities to help students achieve personal growth through listening to and providing feedback on their fellow peers' ideas. Overall, the school is quite competitive and rigorous (which is not for the faint of heart), but the academic growth each student experiences during their time at Weston High School is immense.
The experience is a great one! The school is filled with lots of great opportunities. One of the only downsides of the school is the incessant bragging, which contributes to the hyper competitive environment found in Fairfield County.
