The CCPS system has a lot of flaws, mainly relating back to our Board of Ed. Hate and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ groups is abundant. Most notably with the recent flag policy and the pronouns reporting policy. Making it harder for students to be themselves at school. The Carroll County system can difficult to transfer into to. They encourage students to move beyond their grade level, immediately putting new students further behind their peers. Also allowing a small selection of courses to fit certain credits, causing new students to need to retake similar courses, also putting them behind. I have personally experienced all of this, and it has been very difficult yo recover from. Also giving me lots of anxiety on how it will affect me getting chosen for colleges and scholarships, heavily impacting my future prospects.
The best parts of my experience is how easy and welcoming it is to do extracurriculars, take classes I enjoy, and how well balanced the academics are here. The worst parts of my experience are how difficult is is to make friends here as since it feels like all the friend groups here have been set in stone for a long time, and the fact that many students here are very undisciplined and uneducated and refuse to take any action to improve upon themselves. What would I like to see change is more opportunities for students to socialize and get along and also stricter punishments on rule breaking and bullying.
I had a wonderful experience with my high school. The support, the activities, sports, etc. I was able to participate in everything. I was able to offer my own services like tutoring to other students but also received support when i needed it for classes. I truly believe my highschool prepared me as much as possible for college. I also wass accepting and successful completed the Nursing program at their Career & Tech Center. Before i even graduated high school i had completed dual enrollments with college classes and i was a certified GNA, CNA and Med Tech.
