My favorite and least favorite aspect of Westlake High School is that it provides its students with a bubble, sheltered from the rest of Westlake Village, which is in turn sheltered from the rest of the world. One of the advantages of this bubble is that students at WHS are encouraged to try new things, pursue activities that don't provide a traditional "return on investment", and build their own intellectual diversity. The importance of clubs such as robotics, theater, and other relatively "niche" interests is never understated as WHS. One of the disadvantages of this system, however, is that WHS fails to provide students with an accurate microcosm of the outside world, and instead, has its own culture of priviledge and entitlement. Students are taught well, expected to work hard, groomed to desire success, yet not encouraged to take much initiative to carve out their own paths.

Westlake High School has a large diversity of people from various types of backgrounds. Our school has a very strong academic base. As much as I dislike humanities, the teachers make classes enjoyable. Then there's math and science. All the classes offer various projects and labs, making the class more hands-on and interactive. In addition, our school has over 10 sports with several hundred athletes. Currently, as a senior, I am the Boy's Varsity Swim Captain. Alongside the coach, I get to help lead warmups and stretching as well as lead the team cheer during our swimming meets. At Westlake, everyone will find their own niche they belong to and will find enjoyment there. Westlake is full of diverse groups but it is definitely a place of belonging.
Westlake High School provided an amazing learning experience for myself. After transferring from a Texas High School I had attended for two year it was certainly a big change. However I found the staff were very welcoming with our hectic boxed up house they were very understanding of our situation and made sure I was ready to start when the rest of the student body would. Over my year there I experienced some very new things such as there exciting and exhilarating pep rallies to there Friday night lights. Overall Westlake gave me the best senior year ever. They really provided amazing aide during hard times such as the shooting in Thousand Oaks, and the devastating wildfires we experienced the next day. They really helped us to continue despite this tragedy. The staff and counselors especially helped with making user we all succeed after graduation. I loved Westlake and it really helped me grow as a person. I will always be a Warrior.
