What I myself personally like about Westgate Charter School is the fact that with the high school program it has. The program offers students to take college courses and get the necessary credits for an associate degree! You will have to a placement test called the Accuplacer test which would determine what college classes to put you in. You will need a total of 60 College credits to earn your associate degree which is a huge thing! The community is very valuable as well, I say so because of the Students, Teachers, Administration; all of this makes this such a wonderful school! Everyone is so polite and even with Colorado being at the flowchart of having the lowest school funding, this school is surpassing that flowchart. With the supplies, laptops, programs, electives, clubs, food, field trips, and much more this school has to offer! In conclusion, this is what I like about Westgate and I don't believe there are any necessary changes need to this school.

The executive director and the dean are simply not capable of supporting the needs of kids with a 504, IEP or any unique learning profile. Although they love to promote positive recognition, they won’t have tough conversations.

The teachers are nice, dedicated and energetic. I was sold on the school during my visits. Some teachers are stronger than others, but, most try.

They talk a good talk, but, if a 504, IEP, or a challenge exists, then the school leadership can’t handle it. They make excuses and always focus on protecting their reputation over the kids.

The school leadership is focused on status and image. My child’s learning profile was neglected. They are quick to ask for cheerleaders from the community.

I was expecting communication and instead I actually even felt bullied by the dean and executive director (and so did my child). Crazy, right?!?

There is no way I could ever trust Westgate to care for anyone important.
As one of the nine students to be in Westgate's first graduating class, the best word I could use to describe my experience is 'unique.' Westgate is a non-traditional school for non-traditional students. I myself would have had a lot harder time if I had spent my middle and high school years in a traditional school. My time was by no means perfect, but its gotten me closer towards my life goals then I think any other school would have been able to.
