Some teachers taught me a lot but some were bad and the structure was not good. The guidance office was absolutely horrible and did not help with college stuff at all.
i transfered due to bullying, and i loved it. it brought back the person i used to be and i couldnt be more thankful
Overall as a school through the United States this school definitely ranks above average but there are gripes I do have especially considering the high standard MA schools are usually held to. First off all, there are over 1000 students here and three floors and no air conditioning throughout the whole building which is suffocating in the warmer months(we always stayed until the end of June so you can imagine) and we also have very few athletic facilities for the many Varsity sports at this school. Yes, it is a positive we have so many sports but considering we have so many sports its sad there are no facilities to benefit some of the athletes. I was a track runner and we never had a proper track to run on and had to go to a local facility to run. In short, this school does offer a lot of educational opportunities and there are some great staff but it falls flat when it comes to it's facilities for extracurricular activities and comfort for it's students.
Westfield High school is a functional school with an aspiring class of students. From my personal experience some teachers are absolutely delightful to be around, they make your school day worthwhile as you go through the drudgery of obnoxious classwork. Other teachers however seem to need to return to a classroom themselves as they either don't grade correctly or at all. The good teachers outnumber the poor, but the poor still leave a sore impact on my impression of the school. Administration seems good but their should be more done to prevent students from crowding in the restrooms. Their should also be some punishment for students who cheat as students in important programs such as NHS often cheat to get their work or assessments done. Not all students in this upper echelon of gpa's or honor programs cheat, but a surprisingly large group do. There seems to be a lack of preparation for college readiness, this needs to be improved exponentially. I hope you take these words to heart.
I liked the spirit and activities my school provided, along with all the sports and clubs to keep you wanting to go back.
My experience at Westfield High has been pretty average. The school itself is not in good shape at all which definitely affects how well a student can learn. There is no AC or heat so its either really hot in the summer to the point where people pass out, or freezing cold in the winter. I would love to see there be a new school in the next couple of years so people dont have to work in the same conditions i did. I love the staff, but because the school is so old and dirty it is hard to find new teachers who want to work in the building. Besides the school being gross the staff, and students are great i have had a great 4 years there and am proud to say in a couple months that i am a westfield high alum!
The school does take academics seriously, but many administrators only care about grades opposed to learning and developing life skills. Also showed 0 regard for mental or physical health of students, unless they get caught vaping of course.
It definitely was not the best. I really feel as though they only took AP courses seriously, too... taking AP bio versus the elective biodiversity was insane. I took both at the same time. AP bio was treated as if on a higher level than the rest of the sciences. biodiversity was where all the kids who did not want to take anatomy or physics went.
A great place for learning as well as activities. I would like to see more diversity and inclusion. The building is old and needs renovations but we lack the funding.
I really enjoy being a student at Westfield High School. I think there is a great learning atmosphere. All of my teachers are great! The only aspect that is not very good is the resources. In most of the surrounding districts all of the students have laptops or tablets. At Westfield High School we has "wifi" which was supposed to be for a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), but the wifi never works. We also don't have many laptop carts or computer labs that consistently work with no problems. In class when I have to do something online I often spend 10-20 minutes just trying to login or get my computer to turn on.
I liked how some of the teachers had good one on one relationships with students. What I would change is to give an upgrade on the school itself. I would also add some safety policies because when I attended there was many ways to get in the school if you weren't a student.
WHS is very old and smelly and doesn't have air conditioning. The teacher are mostly fine but nothing fantastic. The athletics are competitive but coaching is inconsistent.
It was run down and was very inadequate to preparing students for after high school. They had not completed renovations since before my dad had gone to school there 30 years prior. It has terrible technology to learn with and chairs, ceilings, locker, they are all falling apart. They also have minimal inclusive after school clubs and programs. I have had 3 principals over 4 years and it was not a well run school.
Very nice for meeting new people! Maybe they should put more money into trying to fix the air conditioning, but otherwise, I love it there.
Fantastic sports program! Teachers are amazing and curriculum promotes many opportunities to succeed in the future! Great home feeling for such a large school.
Some of the teachers were okay, not the best. Definitely sign up for the engineering and architecture classes if they are still offered.
Westfield High School was an excellent stepping stone for me in my academic career. It provided me many opportunities to travel abroad, play music, act in theater, be an exchange student, and be an athlete.
WHSprovided me the opportunity to take duel enrollment courses at the local community college and helped me graduate early. Looking back, I am glad I left; but I am so glad I had the time I did while I was there.
WHS has its downsides, like any high school, but those are eclipsed by some of the amazing (and not so amazing) teachers I had and activities I was able to take part in. WHS is not perfect, and I'd like to see better technology integrated and few personnel changes; but as it is, I'd send my hypothetical children there.
