Western High School contains eight-hundred and thirty-six students in grades nine to twelve. This traditional high school conveys a strong, diverse assembly of Western students and administration. The academic community promotes challenging activities to stimulate our young minds; furthermore, the staff works diligently to engage every student to learn. The marching band, choir, academic teams, and sports teams have won multitudes of awards. The resources and facilities found in the classrooms are top quality. The food is exceptional, considering the budget, and parent involvement is below average. ALICE drills are performed regularly and safety rules have been reviewed. I gave Western High School four stars, because there is always room for improvement.
I havent had the best experiance when it comes to how other students have treated me. I love my counselor, but not all the teachers. Some of them are racist, and have made comments as I am hispanic in an almost all white school. The academics are good, with our school having a higher than average GPA scoring. Half the teachers are great, while the other half does not like being there and make it clear. Our band program is really amazing across the board, but the atmosphere can sometimss be hostile due to some students. Our sports are average, with some doing better than others. The administration is not always helpful, but usually it depends who I go through. I love the counselors, who genuinly care about their students, but do not love the principle or vice principal. One of which has been called out online for specifically calling out girls weighing more than average when it came to following the ridiculous dress code of our school. Often only applied to girls and never boys.
Western High School is an amazing place to receive an education. The classes are challenging, and prepare you for what’s next in life, whether it’s college, trade school, or the workforce. The teachers are outstanding, and help you in any way they can. I also play sports here, and the weight room, locker rooms, fields, etc., are high quality, well taken care of places. The school administration partners with parents to improve the students’ experience here. Western has multiple programs that cater to any interest a student may have. Western works another school in town, and you can do welding, nursing, engineering, and many other trades through this program. The resources available to students is more than we would ever need, and the staff are more than willing to help each person succeed. I am currently a junior, and can honestly say that I have enjoyed my experience at Western High School.
