Westchester Academy for International Studies Reviews
Rating 3.77 out of 5 353 reviews
My experience at Westchester was not the best. I transferred there in the midst of middle school and found it incredibly difficult to become friends with the students there. People were not entirely accepting of newcomers and cliques overran the school. The teachers, however, were pleasant and helpful. I transferred to Westchester to academically challenge myself and definitely found myself to be challenged. The schoolwork was definitely overbearing at times and could only be managed by the most responsible of students. It would have been preferred if the teachers remembered the amount of classes a student has to take, they were a bit inconsiderate of the time students had and the amount of work they gave.
As a junior at this campus, I would say that Westchester Academy for International Studies is unlike any high school in my district. Being the only high school offering the IB Programme in SBISD, the courses available are unique to this high school, with courses that challenge the student body, through classes such as IB English, IB History of the Americas, IB Biology, IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretations, and IB Spanish. Through the various courses available, students are able to explore each subject through a different lens, encouraging them to collaborate in teams for group projects, such as the IB Science Group 4 Project, and collaborate with teachers and staff for individual projects, including the IB Diploma Programme EE (Extended Essay) and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) Project. Overall, WAIS is a great school for you child to expand their knowledge and passions through various methods, preparing them for the rigorous courses they will take in college.
Westchester Academy offers IB courses to high school students. The teachers prepare you well for exams, and guide you through creating career goals. The counselors are amazing and will work with you to help you succeed. Westchester celebrates many cultures through offering several different language pathways, and language honor societies. Westchester is a school that truly cares about your academic success. I was able to take the Career Related pathway through the Guthrie Center and have had so many opportunities opened for me.
