West Shore Junior/Senior High School Reviews
Rating 4.11 out of 5 293 reviews
West Shore has been a six year long experience because it integrates middle and high school. Being integrated has the benefit of being able to take more advanced classes, seniority guidance, and a comfortable transition each grade! However, it also means younger grades are underrepresented and makes it feel more prioritized to older grades, and is very awkward to be the younger students as there is a big age gap between students. Overall, the school is very academically driven, so this means the school has a lot more homework. The school also restricts duel enrollment which is disappointing, but has a hard focus on AP classes. Teachers have been mostly top tier giving me a great education. On another hand, all sports, except soccer, are underfunded and often require student efforts for them to work out! Then, continuing on student activities the school is very strict about what students can do often resulting in less freedom because of fear of getting kicked out.
I moved to West Shore senior year from Viera High. I initially moved solely for academic purposes, but little did I know that it would be a life changing experience. I am not going to lie, it was indeed extremely difficult, attempting to make friends in a small school where everyone knew each other since 7th grade. There were times that I felt that I was not meant to be part of the school at all. However, the faculty and staff made my change more enjoyable and made sure that I felt welcomed and supported. It was throught their help that I sought to branch out and make friends. What started as a horrible year ended with me turning into a more mature and confident young adult. Although I was initially very hesitant about doing the senior activities I forced myself to take part. It was during Wildcat Challenge that I honestly started to feel in sinc with my senior class. As a West Shore alum and as a sister of rising freshman at West Shore I can confidently say that I love my school!
West Shore prides itself on its accelerated coursework, which it has. Even as students get into higher grades and may not want to take AP classes, West Shore allows students to participate in Duel Enrollment or Honors courses. Most of the staff at West Shore is friendly and willing to aid students in their academic endeavors, especially homeroom teachers.
Student life is unique when comparing it to the traditional high school experience. Most students will have many assignments and have to dedicate hours to their schoolwork outside of school, even going as far as pulling all-nighters or skipping school to get more work done. While teenagers are known to not have the best time management skills, the course load work that students receive can be excessive. However, students do band together to overcome their work. But generally, students are friendly, even if sleep-deprived. Additionally, the students are not focused on sports, rather they prioritize their academics.
