Some of the teachers were helpful and very friendly others were the opposite. It would be nice to have seen the school and the school district it is apart of be more competent in the way they spent their money. For instance instead of buying the material and the labor to build a fitness center that isn't apart of the building how about pay for things that actually help with students education, and bare in mind that the school already had a weight lifting room and locker apart of the same building. They also spend more money on sports than education again by purchasing new turf for the football and baseball fields. Like are you serious your sports are far more important than students education, and the prevention of another mold outbreak that damaged alot of learning materials. It just baffles me that we would rather see a student get a college degree just because they play sports than help someone who doesn't want to get the same level of education. Everything else was good.
West Shamokin was a mediocre high school. It has all the basics to get you through school but that’s the only thing going for it. Athletics are based on popularity and favorites. Bullying isn’t taken seriously. There is no consequences for student actions. Teachers are hit or miss on being helpful or not. The place is told to be sinking more and more every year since it is built on a swamp. Some faculty have or think they have more power than they actually do. While I got the education I needed, sort of, I cannot say it was enjoyable or easy.
The school overall has incredible students & staff! I personally have never felt more at home with the peers in a school! If it was during school or after with volleyball, everyone has a positive outlook and works together. Graduation is definitely going to be a bittersweet moment because I have made so incredible friends that I consider family now throughout all my years of high school.
