I loved it, I was super involved in the music program and made lots of friends and connections there. I made so many memories with so many wonderful people and teachers and I couldn't have asked for a more amazing experience. All the teachers I had were amazing and friendly and it was easy to make friends with other kids! I wish though that the administration would be better about informing students and parents about things, I felt they lacked in communication.
My experience overall has been great at WSHS, with the best part being the variety in most areas, and the worst being the quality of education given in each course drastically changing depending on each teacher. I would also like to note that WSHS is not the most diverse school (everyday interactions with schoolmates showing how much they lack awareness of other cultures) and it would be interesting to see how much students would learn with a culture day or something similar to that. There is also a big drug problem at WSHS (kids vaping or smoking weed in bathrooms) that I would very much like to see changed.
Some things I like about West Salem Highschool is that there are a lot of options when it comes to taking classes geared towards a specific future job opportunity. We have Marketing and Business courses, a variety of different Art programs, more technical job focused classes. West offers one of the most robust and well funded EMT and fire service courses in Oregon, with the EMT team having made it to state multiple years running. With the expansion of the new wing, they have even gotten a fully functional fire truck.
