I really liked West Ottawa High School. I loved walking between buildings and the friends I made. There is a long list of classes available to take for each year. This is really nice, being able to take such a wide range of classes. One thing that sucks is that there are only a few councilors to thousands of students. This means that they'll take a long time to answer emails. I've only been at this school for a year and I've had a great time. I came in with no friends or anything and now I'm leaving with a group of friends and plans for the summer. I would have to recommend this school to new people as it is very welcoming, but definitely ask for a tour guide because it is a huge school with two buildings and it's easy to get lost. The maps they'll give you are also extremely difficult to read. I also think it is awesome how this school has two buildings, an indoor pool, and a bunch of gyms. I continue to be amazed by the things in this school and the people who go here.
My first two years here were easier academically, I did do a few honors classes but it was easy to balance. The teachers are great! They're kind and helpful. My last 2 years I decided to do the IB programme so that was harder, but I had a lot of support from my teachers and IB classmates. Sports here were fun to do too. But while I had a positive experience, I have heard of seniors moving to other schools because WO teachers have so many students they don't know the student's name. But personally all of my teachers know my name and you'll have at least one teacher who you feel like you can share personal things with.
I currently go to West Ottawa and I enjoy attending this school. My experience has been great throughout the four years I've been here. I feel supported by my teachers, they're great at teaching and I can understand easily. They have tutoring and studying resources that they offer to help with students. I've made many friends and I was able to join lots of clubs. Some things I've struggled with were having some teachers that didn't support me.
