West Morris Central High School is a wonderful high school located in Long Valley, New Jersey. I spent four years and received my high school diploma from this institution. The staff, guidance, and education provided prepared me for my undergraduate degree. The teachers are highly educated and provided me with a base of knowledge prior to starting college. Prior to college I received education in anatomy and physiology, as well as chemistry, and biology which were core classes in my nursing degree. Without this base of knowledge, I would have struggled in my college courses. As well as the education, the advisors were also excellent at West Morris Central High School. The staff helped prepare me for college entrance exams. They arranged for me to take prep classes at my high school and find test sites near my home town. I was prepared for my undergraduate degree thanks to the help of West Morris Central High School.
I am now in my 3rd year attending West Morris Central High School, and my experience has been average. I've made many good memories, and have learned to make the most out of whatever situation I'm in. But, there have been many times that make me look at this school differently. And, my experience in the school may be different from others because i am one of the few colored students that attend. And the way the school handles things like racism has really changed my view on it. I hear and see many things, and I know many teachers do too, and they do nothing. And if someone is caught, they get a slap on the wrist. And with something like racism, it should be taken a lot more seriously. But, like I said, I have learned to make the most out of everything, and I only have a year and a half left. And this has only made me stronger as a person, and definitely strengthens my desire to get away from here.
Graduates have gone on to be extremely prepared for college. The school is really what you make of it...academics are great and a LOT of students are in an IB program or take multiple IB/AP classes. I've had some inspiring teachers as well as some not-so-great teachers, but the majority of the faculty is great in my opinion. I've had a lot of opportunities to challenge myself, especially in the arts: we have a professional, state-renowned theatre program; the director really pushes the envelope and opens our eyes to society. Our sports are pretty great as well: we have some state-renowned and even nationally-renowned athletes. The facilities at the school are just a little above average, and could use some love, but the students are generally pretty high-achieving.
