My favorite thing about West Monroe that seems uncommon across Louisiana is the constant opportunity and encouragement for excellence. AP and DE courses, tutoring, ACT workshops, etc. all work toward student success. This gives a student like myself the ability to reflect on their own career decisions and explore them before ever stepping into college. With this, we will be much more likely to hold our heads higher going into our secondary education, and we will have gained a larger background knowledge of important life lessons. However, what prevents West Monroe from 5 stars is the attention paid to athletics. While athletics are a great way to bring the school together, academics are ultimately more important and more long lasting, which is why more emphasis on academic achievements is necessary. Perhaps if they employed breakfasts for highly achieving students or periodically awarding students the community of excellent students would grow.
West Monroe High School was an experience that I would wish everyone could have. The atmosphere and the people are something that define you into the person you wish to be in the future. However, when both continue to change over and over again, it becomes difficult to manage a life in high school. The worst parts of my high school years would be the threats that were made and acted on. Every week there was as a threat but luckily rarely where these acts brought to life. When they did however, it is an experience I wouldn’t wish for anyone. Even though it be lockdowns were scary, it allowed the best part to shine, the teachers. The teachers took time out of their day to help and mentor myself and fellow peers of mine into the life we now thrive for when going to college. It’s defined me to get a business degree and then go into law. They brought me from the bottom to the top, by letting me to make mistakes but always picking me back up. Now I thrive to be a lawyer, thank you WMHS staff
The best part of West Monroe High School is all of the new people that you meet and all the amazing friendships I have gained from going there for almost four years now. The teachers are not only there to teach you, but also be your biggest supporter. It really is a great school and they do a good job with running over two-thousand students. The biggest issue we have there is the fighting. Although there is no way to stop the fighting, there should be a better way to handle it after it is done. They need to stick with the rules they first put down and stick with it. Overall it is a great school and I am going to be very upset when I have to leave in May.
